Berlin Monuments: Holocaust Memorial

The Holocaust Memorial - a memorial for the murdered Jews in Europe - was opened near the Brandenburg Gate on May 10th, 2005.

However, the planning to build such a memorial already started in the 1980s. In 1998, the plans of the architect Peter Eisenmann were accepted and the building works started in 2003.

When you walk through the memorial that is designed of 2,700 rectangular blocks you will soon start reflecting about the murdered Jews.

Also in 2005, the "Ort der Information" was opened next to the memorial. This "Place of Information" tells the history of the Holocaust in Europe and is supposed for reflection as well.
