Museums in Berlin: Museumsinsel

On the Museumsinsel in Berlin that became UNESCO World Heritage in 1999, there are clustered five interesting museums and exhibitions: "Altes Museum", "Neues Museum", "Alte Nationalgalerie", "Bode-Museum" and "Pergamonmuseum".

Altes Museum

As King Friedrich-Wilhelm III decided to have built a public art gallery in Berlin, he employed the architect Karl Friedrich Schinkel. In 1830, the "Altes Museum" of classical style was opened as first museum on the "Museumsinsel". Now, it houses a Collection of Classical Antiques as well as the Egyptian Museum.
